The Michigan project is probably the most interesting "fixer upper" of the Winging It Design projects to date. As with the Islamorada project, this 2-acre lake property is one of a kind. The property sits on a peninsula so water is right there in every direction.
However, because the property was designed to be a fishing camp in 1927, and not a 5-star retreat in 2022, the project was a massive undertaking. Three of the cabins had nothing more than a toilet and a sink; one cabin had a bathtub. Wood burning fireplaces were the only source of heat and there was no air conditioning. Rustic was an understatement.
The vision was simple: create living spaces that make guests even feel at home.
Two of the four cabins were taken down to the studs and made into all season buildings. The main cabin was gutted and turned into an entertainment cabin. There is one small bedroom, but, the majority of the house consists of an open kitchen, dining table and a comfortable and inviting seating area. New windows and doors opened up the buildings to overwhelming lakefront views and the natural sunlight made the cabins feel open and airy. While they were designed to feel rustic and "campy", they are livable 365 days a year.
The other two were renovated but left rustic in feel but loaded up with the amenities and furnishings of today. NEED MORE
She nailed it once again.
